Built in Chicago. Trusted since 1998.

Two and a half decades hauling ocean containers through the busiest rail gateway in North America — and we're just getting faster.

Our Story

From one truck to a fleet the Midwest relies on.

Chicago Intermodal Trucking opened its doors in 1998 with a simple conviction: containers move best when one carrier owns the whole job — the truck, the chassis, and the yard. While others chased every freight type at once, we built our reputation on what Chicago does better than anywhere on earth: inland intermodal rail drayage.

That focus compounded. Year after year we added chassis, opened yards, and earned standing appointments at every Class I ramp in the region. Today we're a mid-size carrier with the equipment depth and terminal access of operators many times our size — and the responsiveness of a team that still picks up the phone.

We've moved through fuel spikes, port congestion, chassis shortages, and a pandemic. Through all of it, our customers kept their containers moving. That track record is the company.

Milestones

25+ years of moving containers

1998 — Founded

CIT launches as a dedicated container drayage carrier serving Chicago's rail terminals.

2000s — Fleet & chassis growth

We invest in our own chassis pool, ending the daily scramble for equipment that slows other carriers down.

2010s — Drop-yard network

Secured, gated yards open across Chicagoland, unlocking large-scale pre-pull and storage capacity.

2020–2022 — Peak resilience

Through historic congestion and chassis shortages, CIT keeps customer freight moving when capacity vanished industry-wide.

2024 — Digital visibility

We roll out a customer portal delivering live container status and terminal milestones to every customer — shippers, forwarders, and brokers.

Today — Powerhouse capacity

25 trucks, 120 chassis, secured drop yards, and every Chicago ramp covered daily — built for the 2026 peak and beyond.

What We Stand For

How we earn the next load

Ownership

Asset-based from the chassis up. When we commit to a move, we control the equipment to deliver it.

Reliability

Standing terminal appointments, disciplined dispatch, and pre-pull discipline that protects your free time.

Transparency

Live status and proactive updates. You should never have to ask where your container is.

Relationships

Many of our customers have shipped with us for over a decade. We grow by keeping them, not churning them.

Security

Gated, fenced, lit, and monitored yards. Your freight is protected the entire time it's in our hands.

Focus

Inland intermodal rail drayage is our specialty — with transload and partner carriers for flatbed, dry van, and reefer.

Asset-Based

Our name is on the door.

The trucks and the chassis are ours. When a CIT tractor shows up at the ramp it carries our name and our authority numbers, and the accountability for that container stops with us.
